A little clarity.

LetterParty is developed by Joe Basirico. It is a word game for two people, with pass-and-play on one device, nearby play between devices, and optional online play through Apple Game Center. No LetterParty account is required.
Information saved on your device
LetterParty saves the player names or nicknames you enter, match and participant identifiers, the board, tile racks and bag, scores, turn history, and save times in its app storage so games can resume. It also creates a random installation identifier to recognize the same nearby players after a disconnect. This is not an advertising identifier.
These records stay on the participating devices. LetterParty has no developer-operated game server and does not automatically send these records to the developer.
Nearby play and what your opponent receives
Choosing nearby play uses Apple Multipeer Connectivity and requires Local Network access, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled. While hosting, your chosen host name, a match identifier, and a random installation identifier are discoverable by nearby devices running LetterParty. Use a nickname if you do not want to display your real name.
After the host accepts a new opponent, both devices exchange participant identifiers, player names, moves, and the complete match state, including both tile racks and the tile bag. Each device saves that state to support reconnection. The game connection requires encryption provided by Apple. Discovery information is visible to nearby players looking for a host.
Local Network permission is used to find and connect with your opponent. LetterParty does not request GPS location, contacts, photos, camera, or microphone access.
Optional Game Center play
If you choose Game Center, Apple handles account sign-in, invitations, and multiplayer networking. LetterParty uses Game Center player identifiers and display names to identify players, select or invite the same opponent, and resume saved matches. Match state is sent to the opponent through Apple multiplayer services.
Game Center is not required for nearby or pass-and-play games. Apple processes information about Game Center use under its own privacy terms. You can manage Game Center sharing in your device settings.
Advertising, tracking, and developer collection
LetterParty contains no advertising, tracking SDKs, or third-party analytics SDKs. It does not sell player data or use data for cross-app advertising or tracking. Its production app does not send automatic analytics or crash reports to a developer-operated service.
If you voluntarily send support messages or beta feedback, the developer receives the information you include and uses it to respond, investigate problems, and improve LetterParty.
TestFlight testing and Apple services
When you install a beta through TestFlight, Apple automatically collects crash logs and usage information and shares information with the developer. Depending on how you were invited, this can include your name or email address, device and operating system details, installation and session information, and crash diagnostics. TestFlight feedback you submit, including comments and screenshots, is also shared with the developer.
This beta-testing information is handled through Apple TestFlight rather than a separate analytics service embedded in LetterParty. The developer uses it to investigate bugs and improve the app, does not use it for advertising or tracking, and does not share it with third parties. See Apple’s TestFlight privacy information for its collection and retention practices.
Apple may include app data in device backups according to your backup settings. Apple services and any external website you choose to open have their own privacy practices.
Retention and your choices
Saved games and the random nearby installation identifier remain in local app storage so you can return to games. Deleting LetterParty from a device removes its local app data; offloading the app can keep that data. Copies in device backups are managed through Apple’s backup tools.
Your opponent keeps their own copy of a shared match. Deleting the app on your device does not delete your opponent’s records or Apple’s service records. Because LetterParty has no central game database, the developer cannot retrieve or remotely erase saved games on player devices.
You can use pass-and-play without nearby networking or Game Center, stop looking for nearby players in the app, and revoke Local Network access in device settings. Restarting a game replaces that match’s local board, scores, racks, and turn history with a fresh deal; it does not erase every saved game.
Privacy questions and changes
For privacy questions during the beta, open LetterParty in TestFlight and choose Send Beta Feedback to contact the developer. Include only information you want to share; a copy of your saved games is not needed for a general privacy question.
This policy may be updated when LetterParty’s features or data practices change. The date above identifies this version. The same policy is available inside the app without an internet connection and at the published policy address.
